Candidate for
Council; District 18

This information is provided by the candidate

I have lived in Nashville for twenty years, and most of those years have been been spent in the 18th District. I grew up in Athens, Alabama, a small town just south of the Tennessee line. I came to Nashville to attend Vanderbilt University and stayed.

I have been working actively for many years to maintain and improve our community. I am currently President of Belmont-Hillsboro Neighbors, a position to which I was elected after serving as Recording Secretary and coordinating BHN's Home Tour for two years. I was one of the organizers of Hillsboro Village Association in 1991 and am still its Treasurer. I am a member of the Citizens Advisory Committee planning the Sharondale-Craighead leg of NES's Central Power Loop. I am also involved with a number of other neighborhood projects, including the rehabilitation of the Fannie Mae Dees Park dragon and the redevelopment of the Forrest Hills Apartments. I am an alumna of the Young Leaders Council.

In my professional life I practice law. Much of my work involves computer and internet matters and small business issues. I have managed a business in Hillsboro Village. I am a graduate of the Vanderbilt University School of Engineering, where I studied environmental and water resources engineering and business administration, and the University of Tennessee College of Law.

My experiences as a negotiator (both as a lawyer and as a neighborhood advocate) have taught me to look at all sides of an issue and to work with interested parties to find the best resolution. My experiences with various Metro entities, such as the Planning Commission, Codes Administration, and the Board of Zoning Appeals, have taught me how they work and how to get things done.

Representing the 18th District on the Metro Council will be a continuation of my community involvement. Betty Nixon and Stewart Clifton have set a standard for what a strong, involved representative can accomplish, and I hope to emulate their examples.
