Jim Petro is an elected official who has kept his promises. For this, he has earned the enthusiastic support of newspapers and opinion leaders throughout the state; voters of both parties as well as independents; and countless organizations.

The kind of reputation enjoyed by Jim Petro-one of absolute honesty, effectiveness, and fairness-does not come overnight. It is the result of years of experience in the public and private sectors. Jim Petro is honored to have served in public office for nearly twenty years as a prosecutor, city councilman, four-term state legislator, county commissioner, and, today, as Ohio's Auditor of State.

Jim Petro will tell you that the thing he is most proud of, simply, is keeping his word. And, once again, he has done just that as Ohio's Auditor of State.

In his first term he has:

• independently identified millions of dollars in public money illegally or improperly spent

• held public officials responsible for these losses regardless of political party

• increased productivity in the Auditors Office by 55%, cut his staff by nearly 1 0%, and underspent his general fund budget by 16%
• slashed the time required to release audits and eliminated a 2,500 audit backlog

• returned $10.7 million of his budget to the state legislature for better use
• removed politics from the office and eliminated the solicitation of political donations from employees

• turned the Auditor of State's office into a model of professionalism (National auditors who have performed triennial reviews of the office described the change in the first two years of Petro's tenure as "a miracle.")

• performed exhaustive performance audits of the state's school districts with widely praised recommendations for getting Ohio's schools back on track
