Gloria Matta Tuchman's Action Plan for Education Excellence

After 33 years in the classroom, Gloria Matta Tuchman knows what our schools need and what our children need.
Gloria Matta Tuchman's Action Plan for Education Excellence includes the following seven components. This plan will restore the promise of California's schools.

1. Accountability

Gloria supports statewide student testing and will establish a "School Report Card" to let parents know how their child's school is performing compared to other schools.

2. Back to the Basics

Gloria will focus on basic skills such as phonics-based reading and traditional math. She will implement higher acadmeic standards as called for by the State Board of Education.

3. Competence

Gloria will work to strengthen teacher credentialing standards and reform the tenure system to remove bad teachers from school classrooms.

4. Fiscal Management

Gloria will fight to significantly reduce the costs of school administration and increase the funding available for textbooks, teachers and classroom computers.

5. Under Performing Schools

Gloria supports "Opportunity Scholarships" for students in the worst performing school districts to pay for attendance at another public or private school.

6. English Immersion

Gloria will immediately implement the English for the Children initiative and end the failed policy of bilingual education now.

7. Parental Involvement

Under Gloria Matta Tuchman's leadership, schools will be accountable to parents and taxpayers, not "educrats."
