United States Representative; District 48

This information is provided by the candidate

What a difference a Republican Congress makes! Since Republicans took control of Congress in 1995, the stock market has more than doubled in value, interest rates have dropped, and millions of new jobs have been created. America has the lowest unemployment rate in almost thirty years and the lowest violent crime rate in 24 years. We also have the highest family income and the highest farm income in American history.

Ron Packard and his colleagues have made great strides since 1995 to return power back to the American people. They handed Americans a much-deserved tax cut for the first time in 16 years, with a $500 per-child tax credit, lowered capital gains rates, and tax credits to help with the costs of higher education. They reformed the outdated welfare system with initiatives to help Americans break the cycle of dependency and replace it with self-sufficiency. They cut incentives for illegal immigration and beefed up security at our nation's borders. Most importantly, they balanced the federal budget for the first time in a generation and eliminated deficit spending. Economists predict that this year will mark the first government surplus since 1969 – three years ahead of schedule!

Ron is encouraged by these successes and looks forward to meeting a new set of challenges and opportunities. He knows that maintaining a balanced budget requires strong fiscal responsibility and continued elimination of unnecessary government spending. Liberals in Congress and the Administration are already proposing to spend any budget surplus on new social programs and increased spending. Ron has a better idea: give taxpayer money back to the people who earned it. Tax relief for all Americans (without compromising the balanced budget) is Ron's highest priority in Congress.

Ron is committed to eliminating illegal immigration, improving America's schools, fighting violent crime, strengthening Social Security and Medicare, investing in national security, and dramatically reducing government spending. Republicans have the chance to change America for the better, and Ron knows that the American people are counting on Congress to take the lead. Much has been accomplished, but Ron believes Americans deserve even more. Ron Packard will continue to fight for the people of California and the nation, and he looks forward to providing Americans with even greater opportunities for the future.
