Support of Public Education

By A. R. "Cecy" Groom

Candidate for United States Representative; District 39

This information is provided by the candidate
Public Education has been under fire in recent years. Instead of dismantling our neighborhood schools, we should continue to make them a better place for our children to learn.
Although Public Education is primarily a local issue, the Federal Government does play a part in educating our young people. One successful program is the Head Start Program for pre-school children to get a strong beginning in their school careers. The government also sponsors breakfast and lunch programs as well as career preparation. All of these programs should be continued and if possible expaanded.

There is also a need of national testing and/or standards to assure success in any community or state. Finally, for the 21st century and the immerging global economy, we should consider second language instruction including bi-lingual education in the early grades for all students to assure language fluency.
