Our Children First: Quality Education NOW!

By Debra Gravert

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 10

This information is provided by the candidate
Debra Gravert's program to improve our schools focuses on school facilities, school safety, student assessment, early intervention for at-risk youth, zero tolerance for weapons, parental partnering with our teachers.
It is fashionable these days for people to say they want a quality education for our children. I want to DO something about improving our students' learning skills. Students should be challenged, not bored, in class. They should be excited and stimulated throughout their education career. I believe this will happen as greater learning takes place and assessment testing shows our schools retaking their position as the best in the country.

We can achieve these goals by making sure our school facilities are in the best shape, with parents and students showing confidence that our schools offer the safest education environment. No tolerance for weapons, drugs, and other distractions from our education goals. By addressing our students' learning needs as early as possible, we will not lose students. We will not see high school enrollments nearly halved between the sophomore and junior years. With a parent-teacher partnership and competitive pay for instructors, we can make California educationally competitive with the rest of the country.

As an Assembly member, I will work to insure class-size reductions continue and expand. Individualized instruction has consistently produced student success. With my legislative pexperience, I KNOW HOW to direct support into the classroom for equipment, textbooks, and instructors. I KNOW HOW to make certain effective before- and after-school programs that will keep students off the streets can be put together. When voters support me, they are supporting "Back to the Basics". When voters support me, they are supporting positive education results. Education is my highest priority. I can and will deliver.
