Political Philosophy for Orville A. "Jack" Armstrong

Candidate for
Justice, California State Court of Appeal; District 2 Division 5

This information is provided by the candidate

My aim is to be an effective judge, one who "strives to persuade and not pontificate"
and who "speaks in a moderate and restrained voice, engaging in a dialogue . . . , not
diatribe . . . ." I strive to create opinions "that both get it right, and keep it tight, without
undue digressions or decorations or distracting denunciations" of parties, lawyers or my
colleagues who hold different views. (Excerpts are from comments of United States
Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg describing the manner in which she
approaches her responsibilities as a judge.)
