Test Scores

By Philip J. "Phil" Weise

Candidate for Board Member; South San Francisco Unified School District

This information is provided by the candidate
The recent Stanford 9 statewide test has given our district a unique opportunity to assess student achievement by classroom, grade and school. The results showed that our district is above the state average and slightly below the county average. We are using this data to raise scores by providing additional resources to our students, teachers and schools. Our goal for this school year is to bring our average up to or above the county average.
To increase our students academic achievements we have:

Won funds from the Eisenhower Grant for Math and Science.

Provided CORE (Consortium on Reading Excellence)training to our teachers.

Established Tutorial Learning Centers in all of our elementary schools to identify and assist children having difficulty with reading, writing and arithmetic.

Reduced class sizes to 20 in Kindergarten through Third grade.

Trained over 60% of our teachers in sheltered english to raise the academic performance of our Limited English Proficiency students.

Estabished a task force to analyze and assist the four lowest scoring schools in our district.
