Shall it be City policy to create a voluntary health care purchasing program to help make affordable health care coverage available to uninsured City residents?
Summary Prepared by League of Women Voters of San Francisco:
Placed on the ballot by the Mayor's request and supported by Board of Supervisor members Biermen, Brown, Katz, Leno, and Yaki.

PRINCIPAL PROVISIONS: Currently, the City of San Francisco has no stated policy concerning health care coverage for its uninsured residents. Proposition J would make it City policy to create a health care purchasing program that allows private employers to voluntarily purchase affordable health care insurance, to use the market strength of the City to lower the cost of coverage, and to offer insurance programs that encourage regular use of preventative health care services.
