On a personal side, I am 48 years old and I work for Raychem in Menlo Park as Planning and Production Control Mgr. My wife Linda, is a music and movement instructor and choral director for various elementary schools in the Mountain View- Los Altos area. We have two sons, Sean 17, a senior at Los Altos High and Casey 14, a sophomore at Mountain View High. Our family has lived in Mountain View for almost 18 years.

Linda and I have been involved in schools for over 10 years. She, beginning as a music volunteer at the kindergarten level and progressing to her current positions at Springer, Almond, Slater and Monta Loma schools. I began as member of the Monta Loma Parent Boosters serving as president for 2 years. In 1992, I was appointed to the Whisman School Board.

During my tenure, the board and the district accomplished a number of noteworthy achievements. One was the completion of the Whisman Sports Center in 1995. The sports center is jointly owned by the Whisman District and the City of Mountain View. The sports center has been recognized as a model for how city governments and school districts can pool their resources to provide recreational activities for the youth of the community.

Another was the development and implementation of a strategic plan for the district. The strategic plan provided the framework for developing learning strategies, implementing technology plans and was the basis of the facilities improvement plan that was approved by the voters in the district.

Also accomplished was the implementation of an interest based bargaining process that involved the district employees, the administration and the board in learning how to negotiate difficult items through adopting a win - win approach aimed at building trust among all interested parties.

Along with my school board activities, I have been active in youth sports for many years. I have coached soccer and baseball at various levels with a particular emphasis on baseball for the last few years. I have also served on the Board of Directors for Mountain View Little League and am currently serving as a vice president of Mountain View Babe Ruth League.
