Background and Qualifications

History of volunteerism: Jennifer and I love Morgan Hill, our home for 21 years where we raised our two kids. Our community involvement began when Jennifer became an active school volunteer, later serving a School Board term. I was active as a youth soccer coach and served several terms as Holiday Lake Estates association president. As a gift shop owner, Jennifer helped invigorate our downtown, getting me involved in volunteer projects like our directional signs. I am an active Rotarian and recently started a community service club at Central High School

Civic involvement: I served on the 1988-90 General Plan update team, was part of the group that implemented the Measure P initiative to control residential growth, and was appointed to the Planning Commission in 1992 where I've served as chair. I helped lead the successful Measure C campaign to extend the RDA this spring, and was recently reappointed to the Planning Commission, which I represent on the current General Plan update.

Business and general skills: I've worked over 30 years at IBM in staff and management positions, and am a retired business planning consultant there now. My experience planning new product strategies, schedules and budgets for IBM will enable me to serve you well in confronting the many challenges that come before the City Council. My interpersonal skills - listening (with an open mind), facilitation, negotiation and consensus building - have been honed by my work and volunteer experiences. I have - and use - common sense, but have no conflicts of interest.

My extensive - and intensive - community experience and involvement uniquely qualify me to serve you on the Morgan Hill City Council.
