Increased programs capitalizing on our Silicon Valley/Pacific Rim location

By Jeffrey A. Schwartz

Candidate for Governing Board Member; West Valley/Mission Joint Community College District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate
The District should become the community college district identified with programs, courses related to the Pacific Rim and Silicon Valley.
The West Valley - Mission Community College District needs a clear identity. The District has not used its location in the heart of Silicon Valley as well as might have been hoped. The District also has made little use of the South Bay's proximity to Pacific Rim trade, commerce and culture. It is interesting to note, however, that the District's quite diverse student population includes substantial representation from many Asian countries and ethnicities.

I would like to help the District explore ways in which our Silicon Valley location and our proximity to Pacific Rim trade and cultures might be capitalized upon to provide both a stronger identity for the District and one of the central elements in a vision for the District's future.
