First, Most Urgent Need!

By Nancy Rucker

Candidate for Governing Board Member; West Valley/Mission Joint Community College District; Trustee Area 2

This information is provided by the candidate
The positions for District Chancellor and President of Mission College are both open. The Trustees need to hire wisely as these leaders will have an enormous impact.
Hiring two outstanding leaders is of utmost importance. Top people at that level can affect the performance of the rest of the staff and the direction of the District in the future. In addition, the process used must be crafted with great care. Selection must be fair and open and it must include input by the staff, the students, and community leaders. The people chosen need to be the best possible fit for this particular academic milieu. The Trustees can ensure that the process is satisfactory to all those concerned. (Interim Chancellor and President were chosen this spring until permanent ones could be hired. The Trustees followed a process devised by all those who wanted to attend a "Strategic Conversation". The new hires are wonderful and they will add a great deal to the smooth and happy functioning of the District.)
