Hillside Preservation

By Althea Polanski

Candidate for Member of City Council; City of Milpitas

This information is provided by the candidate
The current Milpitas Hillside Ordinance may be changed by a simple majority of the City Council. I strongly support hillside preservation.
The citizens of Milpitas have strongly supported the Open Space District and strongly desire a quality of life for all citizens. I have been a strong advocate of hillside preservation, open space and the environment for many years. As a member of the Milpitas School Board, I was instrumental in preserving open space through a partnership with the City of Milpitas to develop the Milpitas Sports Center in 1988. I spearheaded a joint city/school project to secure a Bobby Sox Field at Russell Middle School for our youth.

As a member of the Milpitas City Council, I will preserve the Hillside Ordinance and Scenic Corridor to ensure our quality of life. The passage of Measure Z, the Milpitas Urban Growth Boundary is critical. Our citizens deserve the right to decide on annexation of properties to Milpitas and protection of their quality of life. Our public services, police and fire, will be stretched with over building in the hillsides. I support Measure Z and the protection of our environment and quality of life.
