The political elite suggest they represent the future of Santa Clara. They, alone, possess the experience, character and qualifications necessary to lead us into the 21st century. Ordinary citizens have been left out of a political system that is locked into the "good ole boy" network of the past, rather than the open and inclusive strategy proposed by Tom Pereira since 1988.

We are held captive to a political system which encourages power of a few, political elite. This does not exemplify the representative democracy envisioned by our Founding Fathers. We should not help to anoint the choice of the political elite, rather, we should help to determine the outcome with our thoughtful vote. Choices made for political expediency have, very often, produced disastrous results in our country's history. Let us choose, instead, to do what is right.

Tom's candidacy is about ordinary people, united for a common cause, and together accomplishing extraordinary things. He believes all of us deserve a voice in city government, not just a chosen few. Our elected officials must be made to realize that a city is made up of people, families, homes, safe neighborhoods and children. These are the symbols of effective leadership. These are the principles under which Tom will govern.

Issues come and go with the passing of each new year. It is almost impossible to predict what our elected officials will be voting on tomorrow, and if we will agree with their decision. Tom believes it far better to vote for the person, not single issues. The goal of his campaign, and tenure in office should he be elected, is to raise to the highest priority the safety of our children and the sanctity of our families. Tom will work tirelessly for Effective, Honest Government. He will protect our neighborhoods from commercial encroachment. He will make integrity and ethics in government a reality, not another broken campaign promise. If these are the principles you wish as a priority in your elected officials decision making process, then we ask for your support.
