Form Corporate and Intergovernmental partnerships to serve our youth

By Rudy N. Nasol

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Berryessa Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Collaboration between governmental agencies and businesses to serve our youth benefits the entire community. Partnerships enhances our ability implement programs through joint funding and pooling other resources.
For more than five years, I represented Council District 4 which includes Berryessa in the City of San Jose Parks and Recreation Commission. I have always advocated the collaboration between the City and the school districts in San Jose to serve our youth. Last year, I served as the chairman of the commission where the City/School Districts Collaborative Policy was adopted by the City Council and the 19 school districts in San Jose. This policy paved the way for the City and school districts to plan and implement before and after school programs at various school sites. More homework and teen centers were established, School Age Growth Enrichment(SAGE) programs were expanded to other schools and many other youth services are being planned.

We need to create partnerships with the businesses around us. The high-tech industry needs invest in our schools to help prepare our youth today in order to fill their needs for highly trained employees in the future to sustain their businesses.
