Excellence in education is a team effort

By Catherine L. "Cathy" Knipe

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District

This information is provided by the candidate
  • Academic excellence requires good communication lines.

  • Board members must be good listeners and ambassadors to the community.
I feel the most important issue facing our district is our ability to nurture academic excellence. To accomplish this, it is vital that the district foster healthy communication between parents and faculty. Excellence in education is a team effort that must involve parents, in order for everyone to feel they are part of the program. The goal of educating our children cannot be fully realized if parents feel left out.

With my years of experience in management I have routinely helped groups reach consensus. As a Parks and Recreation Commissioner my track record shows I am responsive to the needs of the entire community. As a school board member, I will maintain an ongoing effort to improve communication between schools and parents. I see my role as both trustee and ambassador and want to be available for anyone in the district with a concern, so that the district is seen as an environment where the community is involved. By example, I hope to encourage the district to work with parents and other members of the community and effectively address and resolve concerns.
