Full Biography for Joseph S. "Joe" Kleitman

Candidate for
Councilmember; City of Mountain View

I have been a resident of Mountain View since 1986. Prior to that I lived in Palo Alto. I was raised in Los Altos Hills where my family moved in 1967. I attended Los Altos High School, graduating after three years in 1970. I then attended Foothill Jr. College and Columbia Junior college where I earned my Associate Arts degree. Transferring to Humboldt State University in 1974, I earned my Bachelor of Science degree in 1976 with a major in Fisheries Biology. After graduating, I went to work for the California Department of Fish and Game in Fort Bragg, CA as a biologist in the Marine Resources Region. I was involved in numerous fisheries population study projects associated with international policymaking for the implementation of the United States 200 mile limit being implemented at the time.

My three young children include twin 5-1/2 year old girls and a 9 year old son. My wife, Leslie, has had an outstandingly successful career at a local high tech firm for the past 12 years. Our family enjoys outdoor activities including camping, fishing, biking, hiking, skiing and traveling. Additionally, we enjoy reading together and storytelling.

I have been blessed with a wonderfully varied, interesting, entrapreneurial career. I have founded and operated 3 successful companies in the high tech, real estate services, and construction industries. I have also worked as a Marketing and Sales executive for a workstation software vendor. I also currently hold valid California General Contractors and Real Estate Salespreson licenses and remain active in both businesses.
