Its Time for a Change -- Enough is Enough

By Deborah Bress

Candidate for Mayor; City of Santa Clara

This information is provided by the candidate
Santa Clarans need and deserve a better mayor than they've got!
The current mayor admits to being involved with Santa Clara politics since 1975. If we haven't seen any progress in the last 20+ years, why should ANYONE expect any progress in the next 4 years. Santa Clarans need and deserve a better mayor! They need and should expect one that lives up to promises -- that mayor is me.

Vote for Deborah Bress for Mayor on November 3rd.

Below are some reasons why you should vote for Deborah!

When the current Mayor was asked by several groups her accomplishments during her reign as mayor she points to:

1) Leadership Santa Clara -- Leadership Santa Clara has happened EXACTLY ONCE, and only in January 1998. With 24 people graduating who paid $400 - $500 each to attend, it took place one Saturday per month for six months. Not a great impact to Santa Clarans at large, nor a high return on anyone's investment wouldn't you say? The truth is that the City of Santa Clara even PAID to have some of those 24 to attend.

2) City Hall Open House -- One should ask what return on that investment is? There are NO more people attending City Council meetings, nor an increase in Citizens Advisory Committee meetings? Who did this effect and at what cost?

The current Mayor, herself, states these are ALL her accomplishments during her four years in office. A mighty short list and a list that has little (or no) benefit to the majority of Santa Clarans.

At one endorsement interview, the current Mayor was asked why she was running for another term. Her response was because Santa Clara permits two terms. That was her REAL response! You would agree -- not a solid reason to reelect her again.

In my time as an involved citizen I have exposed several problems that have been corrected. A list that far exceeds the TWO things that the current mayor points to. Here are just some of my accomplishments:

1) Comingling of funds with Santa Clara Convention & Visitors Bureau. This illegal action has stopped and the comingled Forecast has been discontinued. The City of Santa Clara now publishes their own paper (and I would investigate if we even need to spend the money on it).

2) Clarified that a citizen is not REQUIRED to give their name nor address when addressing the Council. This requirement has now been discontinued.

3) Pointed out that the City was violating the Brown Act by not identifying Closed Session specifics. This section of the agenda is now expanded.

And there are many more corrections and modifications that have been made due to my involvement and insistence.

I want to be your Mayor -- not a professional politician stepping on the heads of Santa Clarans for my next political appointment/office. I'm not a politician, I'm a common citizen with common sense with the courage and experience to ask the right questions and insist upon answers.

VOTE FOR DEBORAH BRESS FOR MAYOR ON NOVEMBER 3RD! Send the message, that we have had enough with political experience, its time for practical experience to take us all into the 21st century.
