Improved Academic Achievement for Carpinteria's Children

By J. Alex Pulido

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Carpinteria Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

This information is provided by the candidate
Results of the STAR testing program indicate that our students are scoring low academically
Unfortunately recent test results in the STAR testing program indicate that our students, at best, are receiving a mediocre education with poor test results in Reading. Over 40% of students at the high school are reading in the bottom quarter when compared with other students nation-wide.

Spelling scores for students in the middle school also indicate that 40% of our children are spelling in the bottom quarter. None of our scores, on the average, indicate that our students are achieving better than other students in the nation.

Improving educational achievement in our district has to be our top priority.
