Moving Memorial Stadium

By Mary A. McWhirter

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Carpinteria Unified School District; Trustee Area 1

Memorial Stadium MUST be moved from Carpinteria Middle School to Carpinteria High School...
Memorial Stadium MUST be moved from Carpinteria Middle School to Carpinteria High School. CMS is on ten acres of land and was built to house 400 students. Five of the ten acres have the District's bus yard, the football field, and the city pool. The remaining five acres house almost 800 sudents today. CMS students are not allowed to have the typical outdoor P.E. playfields that most middle schools and junior highs are accustomed to. It is time that the District meets the needs of our Middle School students and give them the expanded facilities they deserve!

The District WILL NOT be borrowing one penny from Measure "A" bond money for the construction of the new football stadium. CUSD WILL be spending up to $550,000 (out of the $17.5 million dollar bond) on the track, field, new irrigation, electrical conduits, and handicap access ramps for the purpose of serving our high school students in the areas of daily P.E. Any other construction for the football stadium is being fundraised by Mr. Lou Panizzon and his committee at the time of this writing.
