Reduction in Fire Service

By James M. "Jim" Stewart

Candidate for Director; American River Fire Protection District

This information is provided by the candidate
I will fight to keep fire stations open, instead of the current practice.
I firmly believe that the current practice that has been implemented by the American River Fire Dist. is wrong. That current practice is the policy known as "rolling brown-outs." To me this is a situation which I feel is falling way short of what the taxpayers are paying for: to have fire stations open every day for 24 hours.

I know for a fact that revenues are not keeping up with expenses and this is a stop-gap measure imposed by the District, but morally I think it is wrong. I feel our argument(the District's) is with the State of Calif. and if elected I will do everything in my power to see that independent districts like American River Fire gets the funds to fully fund day to day operations.

It seems that the State of Calif. has told the counties to charge special districts for the collection of homeowner taxes and that alone this year has cost the District over $600,000. This must change.
