Mother, grandmother, business owner, public speaker, workshop leader, community volunteer, civic worker- Kathy DeRosa is all these things and more. Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, Kathy graduated from Fontbonne Hall and for atime attended St John's University. Marriage and a family, 2 boys and a girl, put her education on hold. In 1980 Kathy and her family relocated to the west coast. She eventually returned to college at College of the Canyons, Valencia, where she graduated with honoes in business. In 1981 Kathy founded Business Supplies Unlimited and set up office in the San Fernando Valley. In 1985 Kathy bought a home in Chatsworth Country Townhomes and quickly became involved in her homeowner association. She became president in 1987. The assocation suffered serious earthquake damage in 1994. Kathy worked extensively with the homeowners, the insurance company, FEMA and the SBA. As president she led the way to be the first assocation to be funded to begin a $4,000,000 reconstruction project. In 1991, ten years after starting her business, Kathy moved Business Supplies Unlimited to Cathedral City. She chose this community for the quality of life it offers and its progressive atmosphere. She quickly became involved in the community by joining the chamber and being elected to the first homeowners board at Canyon Shores HOA. Kathy still sits on that board and has been president since 1992. Under her presidency the association has recently completed a successful 5 year construction defect lawsuit and the project is now under reconstruction. In 1992 she was appointed to the Cathedral City Mobilehome Fair Housing Commission where she served as co-chair. In 1995 she was appointed to the Planning Commission. She was co-chair 1997-1998 and is currently chairing this commission. Throughtout her years as a resident of Cathedral City, Kathy has worked toward planned economic development while focusing on the benefits to the community. During her active life both here and in San Fernando Valley, Kathy served as a seminar speaker and was a gueat speaker/lecturer for a small business/entrepeneur at UCLA, where she crtiqued student business plans. Kathy participates in the Partners in Education program and sat on the Desert Sun Ethics in Politics Forum. Most recently she was selected as one of 12 women in business to be honored by the Desert Sun and is an Athena nominee
