CANDIDATE STATEMENT

By Susan Withrow

Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Mission Viejo

This information is provided by the candidate
Name: SUSAN WITHROW Age: 43 Occupation: Council Member

As an 18-year resident, wife, and mother of 14-year old twins, I care deeply about our city and protecting our superb quality of life as a family-oriented community.

The single largest threat we face is the County's proposed international airport at El
Toro. As an outspoken opponent of this airport I know the next four years will be critical. I will work relentlessly to stop the airport and promote South County's nonaviation Millennium Plan.

I will continue to apply my education in public administration and professional planning experience toward establishing long-term policies that strengthen our community and ensure a promising future for our children.

My accomplishments include:

  • Improved traffic circulation with 98 interconnected and synchronized traffic signals

  • Intersection improvements at Alicia/Jeronimo, Alicia/Muirlands, La Paz/Muirlands, and Oso/Marguerite in 1999

  • Development of new parks and additional open space

  • Construction of a state-of-the-art city library

  • Deployment of additional police units resulting in lower crime rates

  • Maintaining a healthy reserve account of $15,000,000 which is 50% of our operating budget with no new taxes

  • Managing growth while establishing a strong commercial retail base creating annual revenues of over $2,000,000

We have a beautiful city and a bright future! Vote for Susan Withrow!
