The citizens of Irvine, especially those of us with school age children, are fortunate to live in a community dedicated to providing unsurpassed educational opportunities. We can all be proud of the exceptional teachers, administrators and staff who devote themselves to achieving the goals we set for them and our schools.

The role of the Board of Education, in my view, is to facilitate the day-to-day work of our talented and professional teachers and administrators, to develop broad policies that assure an enriched educational experience for our children, and to ensure that sufficient funding is in place so that the programs and policies we all want can not only continue, but flourish.

Members of the Board of Education serve the community best when they are (1) open and easily accessible to parents, students, teaches and administrators; (2) well-informed about the community's desires and concerns; and (3) able to work together with the community, teachers and administrators to develop thoughtful and well-reasoned soluntions to the issues which confront our schools, as well as our community, now and in the years to come.

My political philosophy, in a nutshell, is to speak the truth about the relevant issues; listen carefully to those who wish to voice their opinions; gather relevant information, data and community input; and only then formulate policies, decide issues and set goals, all in an open, considerate and thoughtful manner.
