A FAMILY HISTORY OF PUBLIC SERVICE My James family has a long history of public service in America. We have been taught to take a vital and active participation in the communities in which we live. My public service to Dana Point comes from a rich 350 year tradition of experience in small town American life. Here are some of my ancestors from whom I've learned: JOHN JAMES 1623-1690, immigrant from Wales who settled Colonial communities along the banks of the Rappahanock River, Culpeper County Virginia.

CAPTAIN JOHN JAMES 1708-1778,founder of Fauquier Co, Virginia, and soldier in the Revolutionary War. SENATOR, JUSTICE,& REVEREND JOHN M. JAMES 1751-1823, pioneer settler in Kentucky, State Representative, and founder of Pulaski County & Flat Lick Church now celebrating 200 years.

GOVERNOR BRERETON CHANDLER JONES 1939- ,former Governor, State of Kentucky JUSTICE JAMES RANDALL ROSS, retired, 1926- , former Superior Court Justice, Orange County, California

MY PUBLIC SERVCE While my career accomplishments have been significant, my principal enjoyment comes from caring for the needs of the people of Dana Point.Since 1993 I have proven myself to be a responsible and responsive public servant.I first served as a member of the CULTRUAL COMMISSION.I was then Vice Chairman of the COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION.Currently I serve as Vice-Chairman of the PLANNING COMMISSION,dealing with the specific plan for the Headlands as well as other issues.I am also Chairman of the Underground Utilties Committee. Some Dana Point residents may know me from the free concerts I co-sponsor with the LAWNCHAIR & PICNIC SOCIETY each Sunday afternoon in August in Heritage Park. MY CAREER I have enjoyed a meaningful and distinguished career as a California real estate licensee since 1970. Understand this: I am not a developer. Throughout those years,I have owned my own company. For the most part, however, I have operated two international real estate brokerage services firms, representing international institutions and private individuals in the acquisition and fianance of investment and residential properties for pension funds, investment portfolios, and residential uses. I am recognized as a pioneer in the field of international real estate.I was founder of the International Section of the National Association of Realtors, and have been made an honorary member of the Taiwan Real Estate Broker's Association. The Department of Real Estate of the State of California has referred to me as a 'Broker's Broker'. I have been recognized by my profession for being a practitioner of quality, integrity, widely known for my foresight, creativity, and innovation in my profession. MY LEGISLATIVE ADVOCACY EXPERIENCE As part of my professional business career,I also served my trade associations. In that capacity I was elected regional vice-president of the largest trade assocation in the State of California. In that capacity I performed seven years of legislative advocacy service both at the local level and in Sacramento. Much of this work touched upon consumer issues, such as a proposed sales tax to be paid by buyers of their homes. I was particularly proud of defeating that issue.
A RESOURCE & AUTHORITY As an avid writer and lecturer, I have published more than 350 articles. My weekly newspaper column appeard in the statewide publications of the Daily 'Law' Journal. My articles have even been reprinted also in international publications. My fellow commissioners in Dana Point have often remarked that my reasoning as a commissioner is clear, well thought out, and that I often bring a perspective to the table that has been overlooked.
