Candidate for Member, City Council; City of Brea

This information is provided by the candidate
My name is Burnie Dunlap and I am a candidate for re-election to the Brea City Council.

"Service Above Self" is more than a slogan to me. I learned first hand what service to others really means from my foster parents. They taught me by their example the value of family, loyalty and service to others. My experiences in Scouting and later the YMCA helped shape an appreciation for positive youth activities and the ethic of hard work.

What have I done in Brea? My leadership and investment in the Brea Community includes: Youth Sports Coach; Past President BOHS Football Boosters Club; Past President Brea Sister City Association; President Elect Brea Rotary Club; President Brea Council for Excellence; Board Member American Cancer Society; member Friends of the Library and Brea Historical Society, former Mayor of Brea and current Councilmember.

What are my qualifications? I have degrees in Psychology, Management, and Organizational Performance. I have extensive business leadership experience. I served as an Army Officer for 6 years. Relevant Community leadership experience includes serving as Brea's Mayor. I was a Community Designer in the Downtown Charette. I am the Chair of the Board of Directors of the Orange County Sanitation District. I was appointed by the Board of Supervisors to the Orange County Emergency Medical Care Committee. I am on the Advisory Board of the Job Development Council working on North Orange County Economic Development issues. I am currently the Director of Community Relations and Advocacy for Saint Jude Medical Center. Most importantly, I am a husband and a father.

What are my goals? I want to continue to use my business background, education, energy, and leadership skills in a way that protects Brea and leaves a legacy of excellence. I want to work to maintain Brea as a special place with its sense of community and family values, to maintain a safe environment for Breans and to protect and enhance Brea as a balanced community

I want to: · Complete the downtown economic revitalization · Develop Brea's Sports Park · Improve senior services · Implement the Master Plan for Parks, Recreation and Human Services · Ensure a safe and secure environment by providing the highest quality and most efficient law enforcement and fire services · Develop and implement an action plan for Brea's hillsides · Increase citizen sense of involvement and ownership

I want to learn from the past, strengthen the present, plan for the future, and most importantly, leave a legacy of success.

Vote for Burnie Dunlap, November 3rd. Brea City Council.
