Other Issues

By Karen Chavez

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Fullerton School District

This information is provided by the candidate
There are many issues involved in a school board race, even too many to discuss here. I encourage you to call me with any questions you may have about where I stand on the issues facing FSD. I would love to talk with you. What follows is a very brief discussion on some of the other things I see as being important:

  • We must be willing to discuss class-size reduction for third grade. First and second graders have greatly benefitted from this program. Then, after we reduce third grade, we must always be open to the possibility of reducing the upper grades, even though it may be fiscally prohibitive.

  • Fullerton children only attend school 4 1/2 days per week. Extra minutes are added on to the other school days to meet state standards for instructional time. However, our children would benefit more from another afternoon of instruction, rather from 15 minutes tacked on to the end of a couple extra days per week.We need to make sure, however, that teachers still receive adequate prep time so that they can deliver a quality program to our kids.

  • Did I forget an issue that you want to know about? Call me!
