Introducing Myself

By Brian J. Brady

Candidate for Director; Irvine Ranch Water District

Education, Experience and Philosophies
This November, two seats on the Irvine Ranch Water District Board will be up for election. My name is Brian Brady, and I'll be among those candidates you'll see on the ballot. I'm not a professional politician. I'm a Woodbridge homeowner, and believe that I can give something back to our community through sharing my training and experience in the utility industry.

In July of this year, one seat became available as the result of a board member's decision to move to northern California. I, along with 27 other candidates, participated in an open invitation to compete for the position. Based on my experience and education, I was appointed to the board at the end of July with the understanding that I would run for the seat in the November election. I'd like to introduce myself to you.

I'm a happily married father of three (son, age 25; daughters, ages 22 and 5½) surrounded by a large and close-knit extended family. Of ten brothers and sisters, six of us live in Irvine with families of our own; and my parents and mother-in-law live in Woodbridge as well.

My formal education was originally based upon studies in civil engineering with a BSCE (emphasis in Water Resource Management) from Loyola Marymount. I became a registered civil engineer, then went on to earn an MBA from USC (emphasis in Finance). My career in the electric and water utility industries, both public and private sectors, over the past 28 years has given me a broad base of experience. I've held key management positions with Southern California Edison and the City of Anaheim. Currently, I'm serving as President and CEO of Long Beach based Dominguez Services Corporation, a $26 million operation consisting of several water utilities throughout California.

I've had the opportunity to participate on the boards of several industry and civic associations including, currently, the National Association of Water Companies and the South Bay Economic Development Partnership. Dominguez Services is also a corporate associate of the National Water Research Institute, headquartered in Orange County. Of special appeal to me is my role on the advisory board of the Torrance Education Foundation, within which Dominguez established a scholarship and intern program for graduates of Shery High School, an alternative educational facility. For several years I was on the part-time faculty (teaching graduate level economics and ethics) of the University of LaVerne, and before that I lectured in an engineering economics seminar series at Cal Tech.

I have been honored to serve you on the IRWD Board these past few months. Many challenges face us in the years to come. Building upon IRWD's past successes, I pledge to work diligently to ensure that we continue to receive a reliable, high-quality water supply at the lowest possible cost. I believe that to do that, we must develop and protect our groundwater resources; make fiscal responsibility our guide in decision-making; and pursue operating efficiencies throughout the organization.

A safe, plentiful water supply is critical to our continued prosperity. As your elected director, I will do all I can to assure that our families have the water we need now, and in the future. I ask for your support in the upcoming election. Please remember my name and vote for me on November 3rd.
