Biography of Connie Boardman

Connie was born and raised locally and has lived in Huntington Beach for seven years. She and her husband Dick, reside on the eastern side of the city.

Educated locally, Connie has both a Bachelor's and a Master's degree in Biology. Her area of interest is ornithology, the study of birds. She has conducted research at Bolsa Chica and other locations in Southern California on the California Least Tern, an endangered species of bird.

Connie is a professor of Biology at Cerritos College where she teaches general biology, botany, anatomy and physiology and principles of biology a course for biology majors. In addition to her teaching duties she is a member of the faculty senate and has secured and managed over one half a million dollars in grant funds for the college.

Connie's involvement in the community began almost as soon as she moved to Huntington Beach. Due to her familiarity with the Bolsa Chica she joined the Bolsa Chica Land Trust to help preserve the entire Bolsa Chica ecosystem. Connie has obtained grant funds for the organization, is an effictive spokesperson for the group and is a Past President of the Trust.

During her presidency she traveled to Washington DC several times to meet with elected officals as well as the Deputy Secretary of the Interior to facilitate the preservation of the Bolsa Chica wetlands and the Mesa. She has also led tours of the Bolsa Chica for numerous community groups as well as represetatives of national organizations such as the National Executive Board of the Sierra Club. Connie is a current Board Member of the Bolsa Chica Land Trust where she leads the Trust's advocate program.

Connie's involvement in the community is not limited to Bolsa Chica, however. She is a spokesperson for Crest View United. This group of citizens has formed to prevent the Crest View School site from being turned into a Wal-Mart. Please see Connie's position paper on the Crest View issue for more information.
