Trauma Center

Marin County must have the very best trauma system in the nation. I will work to assure that Marin Genral Hospital plays an important role in that system, providing the highest level trauma services compatible with the County's trauma plan. Participation as a trauma center will bring top level care to the residents of Marin County, and will become a stimulus for the improvement of all departments within the hospital - from pharmacy to laboratory. Just like hospitals that provide transplant services, a hospital that treats trauma victims improves the care it provides all of its patients, and becomes a source of pride to the community.

Public Representation

There is a need for increased public representation on the Managing Board of Marin General Hospital. This change will bring the public's voice to important discussions concerning the future direction of MGH, budget decisions, compensation decisions, quality of care and other matters of concern to Marin residents. We can have the voice of the people expressed without pursuing a costly lawsuit, that if successful, will undermine the high quality of care currently provided to the residents of Marin County at Marin General Hospital.

Marin Center for Health Promotion

Marin County is a center for leading edge ideas, and should therefore lead the nation in developing a county-wide center for health promotion. I propose such a Center. This Center would combine the resources currently spent by our local hospitals, health plans and governmental programs. It would pool resources, eliminate program duplication, and provide staff with greater expertise. Most importantly, such a Center will allow for continuity of education to residents who move between commercial health plans or transition from government programs to commercial plans. As long as they remain Marin residents they will receive the same information.
