Political Philosophy for Alan J. Van Nevel

Candidate for
Governing Board Member; Sierra Sands Unified School District; Trustee Area 2

This information is provided by the candidate

The Sierra Sands school district faces some serious difficulties in the next several years. Dr. Van Nevel will ensure that the district makes it through these difficult times and continues to grow and excel.

A major concern of Dr. Van Nevel's is the way the district currently chooses and reviews the curriculum. The district has implemented a review process for the math curriculum, and Alan would like to see that process expanded to allow for more direct parent input, and also to review all the subject areas, such as language arts. The current math program, CPM, is a program that is ill suited for the district, and should be removed from Sierra Sands schools.

As a physicist and engineer, Dr. Van Nevel makes his living by identifying and solving problems. The district currently faces some severe financial problems in the very near future, and Alan plans on developing solutions that will help to reduce expenditures, without impacting on the quality of education that the students of district currently receive. In the same vein, revenues can also be increased, in ways that will not impact on the community.

In short, Alan Van Nevelwill develop and implement innovative strategies that will have minimal impact on both students and the community, yet allow the district to thrive and grow in these difficult financial times.
