Candidate for Member of City Council; City of Shafter

This information is provided by the candidate
In 1996, you, the citizens of Shafter completed the final report of the Shafter Visions Project. In this report you identified six major areas of concern. They were job creation, public safety, schools, recreation, urgent medical care, and more retail shopping/options for downtown. Our City Council has made significant progress in attaining solutions to these concerns and issues.

However, there is still much work to be done! I am ready, willing, and able to do it.

As most of you know, there has been over one million dollars budgeted this year for the revitalization of downtown Shafter. This is going to be one of the most historic and difficult projects that we as citizens of Shafter will ever undertake.

While I don't have all the answers to this project, I do know that members of the City Council have to evaluate and make tough decisions. Our local elected officials must do what is best for the majority of the citizens while keeping the needs of Shafter merchants and property owners in mind. I have the common sense, business knowledge, and experience to make these decisions.

I've lived in Shafter all my life. My two daughters were born and raised here in Shafter and I worked at Safeway/Vons for thirty-five years. Now I'm running for City Council.

I would appreciate your vote on November 3rd.

Sincerely,

Jon W. Johnston
