As corny as it sounds, our children need the basics (reading, writing and arithmetic) more now than ever. These basic skills will be the foundation for what our children will learn in the future. Giving them the ability to be strong readers, good communicators (written & verbal) and critical thinkers will help to ensure that they have the opportunity to have a successful future. Without that kind of a strong, basic foundation we will have failed our children and doomed them to a difficult future.

Our public schools cannot be everything to everybody. Not all of the needs can possibly be met. Concentrating our efforts on these basic skills is the best, most efficient, and wisest use of our limited resources.
