A viable remedial summer program

By David L. "Dave" Barger

Candidate for Governing Board Member; Rosedale Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Rosedale needs a summer school program to meet the needs of the community and to assist in meeting the California mandate that every child be a reader by the third grade.
Why don't we have a remedial summer program in Rosedale? We have idle facilities, willing and capable teachers who would benefit from year round employment, and children who desperately need help to achieve and/or stay on grade level. Children who are not having difficulties could benefit from next grade level challenges as well. With the current interest and emphasis on test score performance it stands to reason that making good use of the summer season would go a long way to achieving the educational goals of the Distract and of the families that are the District's customers for educational services. I believe that the only major hurdle is to identify the funding and this I believe can be done successfully.
