HUMBOLDT BAY HARBOR & WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT

By Jack McKellar

Candidate for Council Member; City of Eureka; Ward 3

This information is provided by the candidate
I have been working to improve Humboldt Bay for 30 years.
POSITION PAPER: HUMBOLDT BAY HARBOR AND WATERFRONT DEVELOPMENT

We have made significant progress towards beginning the reconstruction of the Eureka Waterfront in terms of the Eureka Channel. The City of Eureka has recently awarded the contract on the Fishermen's Dock area and the Small Boat Basin renovation projects. I believe I have played a strong part in furthering those endeavors. I am a proponent of reserving some of the waterfront property for a performing arts center and related cultural activities.

I will continue to work towards completion of the other Waterfront Development projects and proposals currently being considered, extending as far as the Eureka Boat Basin.

I have worked on and been a proponent of deepening the main channel and turning basin in Humboldt Bay for over 25 years. I believe that keeping our shipping and recreational water channels open and accessible to the fishing industry and pleasure craft traffic, as well as major shipping, is a key component to the health and future of the Eureka economy. I will continue to support these endeavors.
