Cutting Taxes and Reforming the Tax System

By Ron Packard

Candidate for United States Representative; District 48

This information is provided by the candidate
Americans have never objected to paying their fair share in taxes. What frustrates American taxpayers is not so much the income tax rate as the complexity of the system and the thousands of special interest loopholds and exceptions in the current tax code. Ron Packard is leading the fight to eliminate the complicated tax code and replace it with a fairer, simpler system that rewards hard work, investment, and savings.

So many taxpayers complain that they must spend hundreds of dollars each year to have their taxes professionally prepared. Under a simpler system, no American would have to pay someone else to figure out the code or manipulate hidden loopholes. Instead, taxpayers could spend their valuable time and money however they wish -- without government intervention or unnecessary regulation.

Ron understands that taxpayers are willing to do their part for America, as long as they are treated fairly and with respect. He has worked hard to increase IRS and government accountability and will continue to fight for taxpayer rights in Congress. In addition, Ron has sponsored legislation to terminate the cumbersome tax code by 2001, eliminating the need for aggressive IRS collection tactics.

Ron has always believed that any new tax system must have four essential components: fairness, simplicity, uniformity, and consistency. Fairness in taxation means that everyone should be required to pay their fair share, without being unfairly penalized for hard work or investment. Simplicity means no obscure exemptions or loopholes for narrow special interest and no unnecessary regulation of business. Uniformity is treating all taxpayers with the same respect, whether they are rich or poor, male or female, black or white, old or young. And consistency means finding a system that doesn't require constant revision or additional regulation. Americans are tired of trying to keep up with a tax code that changes from year to year.

Almost any system is better than the one we have now. Ron Packard is committed to simplifying the tax code, reducing government intervention in business, and giving power back to state and local governments. A strong supporter of tax limitation, Ron will continue to work with Congress and the Administration to produce real results for American taxpayers.
