I was born in New York City in 1958, the oldest of two children. In 1976, I enlisted in the U.S. Army and served honorably with NATO forces in West Germany until my honorable discharge in 1979. I enrolled in the University of Maryland in 1979 and received my B.A. in History in 1982. In December 1982 I moved to San Francisco, California.

In August 1983, I entered the legal studies program at the Santa Clara Univeristy School of Law. I recieved my J.D. in 1986 and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1987. I have been an active member of the Libertarian Party of Sacramento since 1986 and served as its chairman in 1995 and 1996. I was the Libertarian candidate for the 10th Assebmly District in 1992. I am a member of the Elk Grove Kiwanis Club and served as its president in 1997. I have been married 11 years to my wife Ann and have a nine year old son by the name of Anthony Joseph Farina. I enjoy sports, politics, rafting, bicycling and other outdoor activities.
