As a 40-year registered Republican, I consider myself a fiscal conservative and a social moderate in the policial arena. However, I abhor the idea of politics dominating the educational community and will work to stop further erosion of public schools by speaking out against any further legistaion and mandates being placed on educators by politicians from either the Democratic or Republican Party. The Superintendnet of Public Instruction should provide leadership to legislators as a result of qualified academic training and experience, not the other way around. Politicians should not be leading the Superintendency which is now the way it is. Futhermore, the State of Califonrin should provide its own educational leadership to its citizens and should not be looking to the Federal Government for direction since the government does not have the qualifications, nor a proven track record of success, to continue in this endeavor.
