Joyce answers questions about her candidacy for Superior Court
Since announcing her candidacy for Judge of the Superior Court, Joyce has enjoyed an open and enthusiastic dialog with community members throughout the valley. Everyone from neighbors to churchgoers to professional friends and acquaintances... Following is a list of some of the questions: "Why do you want to be a judge?" More criminal cases go to trial in Superior Court than any other kind. My extensive background as a deputy district attorney prosecuting difficult cases is unequalled. That trial knowledge will be a vaulable asset in our Superior Court.

What got you involved with the problem of domestic violence? In 1983, I issued an extremely serious domestic violence case that opened my eyes to just how dangerous and pervasive domestic violence is in our community. As I learned about the psychological and physical damage that's done to women and children who live in these violent environments, I was determined to help on both a professional and personal basis. As you can see from my resume, I have worked on many different areas of this difficult problem. I intend to continue my commitment in the future.

What do you think about the current "Prop 220" to merge our municipal and superior courts? The passage of Prop 220 will bring needed efficiency to our court system. We currently have duplicate administrative staffs and cumbersome procedures that often slow down the courts. Also, consolidation of the Superior and Municipal Courts will allow more efficient use of judges. I support Proposition 220

You have been a prosecutor for a long time. Do you think you can be a fair and impartial judge? A prosecutor has an ethical obligation to prosecute cases where only the evidence shows the defendant is guilty. We make our decisions based upon the facts, not because of who the defendant is. I will continue to evaluate the evidence fairly and apply the law appropriately.
