Candidate for Assessor

As an experienced property tax professional, but a novice candidate for the nonpartisan office of assessor, I find the endorsement game very interesting. My political opponent, Bruce Peotter, has worked for years on Republican campaigns in Orange County. Immediately after he filed his papers, Bruce began scooping up endorsements from his friends.

He has endorsements from most politicians that represent western Orange County at the state level. None of them inquired about the qualifications of the other candidates, they just gave their endorsements.

Some individuals, including Treasurer John Morlach, Supervisor Todd Spitzer, Supervisor Bill Steiner, Assemblyman Bill Campbell, and Member Dean Andal (Chairman of the Board of Equalization) have declined to endorse in this race. In all of those cases they know both candidates, and understand the political and qualification conflicts.

Others, including Supervisor Chuck Smith, Assistant Sheriff Doug Storm, Councilman Bill Craycraft, Taxpayers Association President Reed Royalty, Orange County business leader Steve Bone, businessman Ed Laird, and the members of the Small Business Coalition, all believe that a qualified candidate is better than a political one.

I am proud to have a small list of quality endorsers who want good government instead of politics as usual.
