Paula Kamena and her husband, Mark, live in San Rafael. She has a B.A. and a Masters Degree in Criminology from U.C. Berkeley and a J.D. from San Francisco Law School. Paula began working in the Marin County Criminal Justice System as a counselor at Juvenile Hall in 1969 while her husband was a police officer. She worked her way up to Senior Probation officer.

In 1978 Paula began law school at night while still working full-time with Marin County Probation. She became a prosecutor with the Marin D.A.'s office in 1983 and has prosecuted cases ranging from drunk driving to homicide.

She was named Prosecutor of the year in 1993 and in 1995 was promoted to Assistant District Attorney, supervising all Deputy District Attorneys in the criminal division. Paula is the chair of the Child Sexual Assault Investigators Team and the Child Sexual Assault Executive Committee. She was recently awarded special recognition by CASA and Family Service Agency for her work protecting Marin children. She was also the creator of the countywide domestic violence protocol observed by all Marin law enforcement agencies.
