Political Philosophy for Robert Miller

This information is provided by the candidate

School Boards in California are non-partisan. Unfortunately, much of the funding for our schools comes from very partisan sources, our State and Federal Governments. The monies from these sources frequently come with severe restrictions on how it is to be used at the local level. I strongly believe in the public school concept and I believe it must be preserved and enhanced. I also strongly believe in "local control" of local issues whenever possible. Public schools funding must be a top priority in Sacramento, but must never be used as a tool of partisan political manipulation or to further some political agenda. Local school boards, administrations, faculty and the community know better than people "in far away places" how best to allocate funds in most cases and should be much more free to do so. It has been wisely said that "That government governs best that governs least". School Boards should become much more pro-active in Sacramento, working to maintain school funding at a level adequate to allow us to adequately prepare our children for their next level of education and for their happy and successful adult life in a tough, competitive world.
