Political Philosophy for Patrick J. Sullivan

My belief is that people will support their local government if they feel they are making a difference. The first step in helping them make that difference is to listen. The second step is to study the issue, carefully weighing all sides. The third step is to make a decision. The fourth step is to act. Tabling and endless reviews can tangle the governmental process so badly that nothing is accomplished. Finally, elected leaders must have the courage to carry plans through to a conclusion. They should have the ability to envision the community and its needs in the next twenty or thirty years and factor those future needs into today's decisions. I believe that Foster City should start the 21st century no longer as an Island, but as a whole City united by the voters and represented by leaders with vision and common sense and the belief that all government, both local and national, is of and by the people.
