"The Future of Point Montara Fire |"
David Lewis

This information is provided by the candidate

As of the date of this writing, the Board of Directors have not articulated thier opinion of the future of the Point Montara Fire Protection District. I can only speculate if this is because they have no plan or if it's because they have no vision. Either way, It's no way to run a fire department.

In my interviews with local fire department authorities, there is agreement that, to provide the coastside with more efficient of fire protection and emergency medical services, more cooperation between the two fire districts will be needed. The increased cooperation will take the form of initial Joint Powers agreements with Half Moon Bay Fire District. The agreements will provide for the greater level of services (possibly including fire department provided paramedic services) while providing the authority for combined purchasing, training, prevention, operations, management and other services.

There are, problems to be anticipated. The Board of Directors must consider the will of the people in the District. The Board cannot simply dissolve the District without a ballot measure vote to do so. There are different taxation rates to consider. Two Boards of Directors. Two groups of firefighters and two firefighter unions. There are two very different labor contracts between the districts and the employees. Finally, there are problems not yet anticipated.

I believe that by virtue of my experence, training, education, and rapport with the firefighters of our community, I am ideally suited to face the formidable challenges of the future and provide our community with the best firefighting and emergency medical services possible.
