Political Philosophy for Connie Rogers

This information is provided by the candidate

I will work to prevent sprawl, renew downtown, preserve our natural heritage, create a balanced economy with jobs for our residents and promote partnership with our schools. I am an independent thinker, indebted to no one. I will listen and speak for those who are concerned about the whole community.

Gilroy is under extreme pressure from development interests, yet during the current housing boom I have proven that I am not afraid to take a stand against unbridled growth. I have consistently voted against unlimited housing allocations and sprawl while upholding our General Plan. I have supported affordable housing to provide for all segments of our community.

Additionally, I have initiated full council support for the County Library expansion of our Gilroy Library. At the same time I have been an inspiring leader in the train station restoration project. During my past term on the City Council I voted for all measures to combat crime and gang activity. Similarly I have supported the police department's ACT team and other prevention programs such as PeaceBuilders.

Finally, for the next term my goal is to continue to support community oriented policing and crime prevention programs; pursue restoration of the train station, increase train service and use of the station as the transportation Hub; support carefully planned growth that maintains Gilroy's natural heritage and create a balanced economy with jobs for our residents.
