Betty Stone moved to Half Moon Bay 23 years ago. She began her involvement with the community as President of Coastside Parent's Nursery School. Betty received a statewide award for her efforts on behalf of the school in 1976.

Betty Stone participated in the drafting of Half Moon Bay's Land Use Plan. She was chosen to work on the Park and Recreation Component following her efforts to defeat a proposal to place a Recreational Vehicle Parks on coastal bluffs.

Betty Stone was involved in local public schools. She served as President of Hatch Elementary's PTA, Chaired the Cunha School Parent Advisory Committee, and assisted in reinsating and securing funding for Half Moon Bay High School spring musical.

Betty Stone has worked for agriculture for 18 years. During the Immigration and Reform Act her office processed over 2000 applications for legalization of residents. She was awarded one of four awards for her work with the program from the Immigration and Naturalization Service.

Betty Stone was elected to the San Mateo County Harbor District in November, 1994. Commissioner Stone serves as President of the Board.

Betty Stone currently works as a consultant to the California Floral Council. She works with cut flower and potted plant farmers actively assisting their efforts to remain viable in California.

Betty Stone serves as Event Coordinator of the Half Moon Bay Art and Pumpkin Festival. Last year the Festival contributed over $76,000 to non-profit and community service groups, spent $26,000 on civic beautification, and awarded $2,500 for college scholarships.

Betty Stone is a member, and actively participates in the County Agricultural Advisory Committee, Boys & Girls Club of the Coastside, and the Half Moon Bay Flower Market.

Betty Stone lives on Filbert Street in Half Moon Bay with her husband Bob. Daughter Heather has graduated with her Master's degree from San Francisco State and now a Counselor at Marina Middle School. Son Christopher graudated from Chico State and is now preparing to enter the credential program.
