     * Advocate for quality education for young adolescents
     * Precinct captain, Measure A (successful school renovations bond
       measure)
     * 2-year president, school parent-faculty organization
     * 4-year chair, successful school grants committee
     * 7-years aiding regularly in the classroom
       
   Goals as Board Member:
     * Make class size reduction work--it is a powerful tool for reaching
       children
     * Support classroom teachers--they touch children's lives
     * Train teachers in technology--it is useless, if teachers cannot
       use it effectively
     * Reach special needs children early--before they require full
       special services
     * Efficiently meet district administrative needs--balanced by direct
       support for schools
     * Reduce parental anxiety--through community outreach and education
     * Promote choice in education--no single approach fits every child
     * Support young adolescents--through academics, electives, and
       community
     * Improve math and science teaching--prepare children for the 21st
       century
     * Emphasize writing instruction--communication is critical to
       success
     * Promote understanding among diverse groups--we must work together
       for children
